Every summer Ryan & I take a moment to talk about what we’d like to do, as a famiy, over the next couple of months.
We break out the calendar and fill in the already scheduled events and vacation days and then take time to fill in the gaps. Most years there is a few day trips to the beach, a hike or two at a nearby park, a festival of sorts, concerts in the park, an outdoor movie, an amusement park, etc…
It fills up quick.
Keep in mind…I’m NOT a planner.
But I’ve noticed in the past, if we don’t have some kind of game plan, we wind up doin’ a whole lotta nothin’ or forget something we were interested in and miss the date.
And this is when I realize I have the case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). The crazy part of it is, I’m not concerned about myself or even Ryan. I’m worried the kids will feel like their summer was incomplete if we don't do EVVVERYYYTHING.
Whoa…hold on. Back up.
Isn’t this the time to sit back, kick your feet up and take a sip of that nice cool drink in your hand?
How did I get like this?
How do I get out of this?
Oh yeah…I’m not even in it. The summer’s just begun and I (we) can do whatever the heck we want.
Phew…dodged that one.
(Back to the calendar, eraser in hand; because I ALWAYS write in pencil, knowing this Non-Planner may need to switch things up)
Now scheduling a handful of days of intentional NOTHING.
Yep, days that say...
FILL IN THE BLANK_____________
How FUN!!! Right?
Now we get to look forward to events, vacation days and time with friends that REALLY mean something to us and on the “blank” days we get to have the freedom to do whatever suits our fancy.
Now that…that FEELS LIKE SUMMER☀️
PS This newsletter was inspired by a picture of my two girls from 4 years ago, which I shared on social media this past week.
The caption read “Summer Goals: to feel like this”
P.P.S. Wishing us all a summer filled with moments chancing bubbles, as well as, sitting & watching the time go by.
