The Challenge of the Clocks Changing

Daylight savings time, the “anniversary” of the shutdown and the cyclone like winds this past week almost put me over the edge.

Let's start with having to lose an hour this past Sunday.

Now, I get it. There was once a good reason for this. But why oh why are we continuing with this practice? It messes with my whole system for a least a week. You?

Ryan, my husband, said this was the last time the U.S. was changing the clock but looks like that was just a rumor, as google says it’s still up for debate. And you know google is always right, right?!? 😂

Anyway, I want to be helpful here so...

If you’re still struggling to get your body in a rhythm after DST here are a few of my tricks to get things back on track:

  • Have a set time to go to bed, every night*

  • Stick to a bedtime ritual. Such as, turning off the tv/putting your device down at least 45 minutes before bedtime and winding down by reading a book or listening to music.

  • Have a set time to wake up every morning.

  • Schedule yourself time to move EVERYDAY. This could range from coming to take class with me to simply getting outside for a 15 minute walk.

  • Drink water throughout your day and try not to eat or drink caffiene/alcohol 3 hours before bedtime (to read more about the affects of eating/drinking before bed, click here)

*Notice I started with nighttime first.

I've noticed when I set myself up with a good night's rest and get my body in a rhythm, I am much more successful at getting things back on track.

Last thing I wanna say…

Don’t beat yourself up if you’re still feeling sluggish, or having trouble making adjustments and sticking to a plan.

Change, no matter what type, is always challenging. Be patient and trust that you can do it.

Do you have any night or daytime tips for getting through the changes of DST? Click reply if you do, I'd love to hear about it.

As for the other things that have thrown me for a loop this week, I'll hold off until I'm in your inbox again to chat about them. Although, I'm hoping by then the winds in PA will have died down.

On a happy note, we had our first cardio dance class this week and it was AWESOME! Sooooo much FUN!!!

If you missed it and want to know more, I've listed the info below. If you don't live in the area, I also have an on-demand video library you could tap into, to help get your daily movement practice underway.

And as always, if you have any questions or want to chat about the above, shoot me an email at janine@jbirdfitness.com

Love,
Janine
